EXPERIENCE MUSIC PROJECT

Are you Experience Music Projected? You won't be yet, probably, until you visit the "dynamic interactive music museum", financed by bajillionaire Paul Allen, that opened in 2000.

Founder Paul Allen's passion for Jimi Hendrix as Culture Hero led him to gather the components of the project together. The Experience Music Project (EMP) celebrates and explores "creativity and innovation as expressed through American popular music and exemplified by rock n roll" (excuse me, I have to kiss the sky). The philosophical basis for EMP can be traced back to Jimi Hendrixs idea of something he called Sky Church, a place where artists and musicians could gig and "plug in", sans the hassle of industry bummers.

EMP architect Frank Gehry is the mofo known around the world for designing the bizarro Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain and the stately Fredrick R. Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis. The EMP was the first Gehry commission in the Pacific Northwest. Dig it at: http://www.experience.org
